Webinar: Intro to GitHub for Science

Lecturer: Katarina Grešová - Postdoc in Machine Learning for Genomics
In this hour-long session, Katka will introduce GitHub from the ground up - what it is, and why it has become the default place scientists and professional teams keep and build their work. We'll look at real research projects living on GitHub, walk through the handful of features you need to get started, and finish by looking at how GitHub is changing in the age of AI-assisted coding.
Date: 22.10.2026 Time: 19:00 -20:30 Language: English We will send an invitation for this webinar to your calendar, once you register :)
Katka (katarinagresova.com), is a postdoc working on machine learning for genomics at the Max Delbrück Center in Berlin. I came to biology sideways: a computer science degree first, a few years writing software professionally, then a master's in bioinformatics and a PhD on how small RNAs pick their targets. Along the way I've lived and worked in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Malta, and the US before landing in Berlin. Outside of research, I teach deep-learning workshops, write open-source tutorials to help scientists pick up the computational skills nobody puts on a syllabus, climb and hike whenever I get the chance, and am currently trying to turn myself into a runner and cyclist too
